WFCC AGM 2022

WFCC AGM 2022 Hi all.  Below are the details for the upcoming AGM for this coming year on the 18th of March. We will be trying to meet face to face if possible and the current committee are in the process of securing a venue.  The agenda will be posted here along with links to the current constitution and any other relevant documents.  You can find details of the event by going to our Facebook page and looking at the event pages (link at the end) This is another important year for the club as always and we need our active members to step up and help out if you can. If you can't commit to joining the committee formally then just helping with running sessions and organising weekends away would be really helpful too.  This club is nothing without its members and we really need more help in the next 12 months if the club is continue to thrive and grow.  I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the meeting and getting planning for the next year.  N...

Club Update- We're back!

Image
We're back! After a long winter and with the lockdown restrictions easing the Club are finally getting back out on the water.  We have restarted our weekly Club nights and are busier than ever. If you've paddled before, either with us or elsewhere, then come and join us on the River at our own club house based on the grounds of The Bewdley School. These nights are great for improving your skills or just getting out there and having a good time. Our group leaders will help you to get out whether you have your own gear or need to borrow some of ours. Due to the current weather, we have been relocating some session to the canal and introducing people to some canoe polo as well as skills sessions.  For those of you who are looking to try out kayaking or canoeing for the first time or getting back into the sport after a long break, you should head along to one of monthly New Starter Sessions (Normally the first Friday of each month) whe...

Tree hugging, boulder beaching and Bala Mill strikes back...

Lower T ryweryn, Sunday 23r d July 2017 P addlers: Chucky , Ali, Clar a, Brian, Sandie The weekend's rain had done little to swell the rivers and it was a small band of three that set off from the Club on Sunday to take advantage of a sunny day in Wales. With the group being small and Clara a relative newbie to white water, the plan was to head to the Dee.

Intro to white water day at symonds yat (and my intro to coaching😊)

Image
Today’s paddle was another intro to white water day based at symonds yat, the idea being to give some of the newer members of the club a chance to experience some moving water and a great opportunity for all members to get out and enjoy the water.

Waves, wobbles and silly tan lines.

A 'little' paddle related blog from Laura - just in case you've forgotten what it was like to be a newbie (I had...)  If you want to follow more of Laura's ramblings on life, paddling and horses please see her blog at: http://ljmonelife.blogspot.co.uk/ In the last week or so the preparation has started for the summer trip to the Alps. After I decided to go and got my deposit paid, I've got some kit sorted and I'm set up with the basics to get out and practice.

Intro to Whitewater - 9th April

Coach - Keith.  Paddlers - Laura & Richard. With the warmer weather and a rare free Sunday I posted up for an 'Intro to Whitewater' session, there was some initial interest but on the day only Laura and Richard were available, so of we went to Symonds Yat - as you all know a very suitable and friendly introductory river.....

Sunday paddle on the Lower Tryweryn

Sunday paddle on the Lower Tryweryn As with most of our paddles mid-week saw the start of a discussion of… “it looks like there’ll be water, shall we paddle?” and with a few other offers for people it was looking as though there would only be three of us paddling today…that soon turned into nine!

Turning left into 2017..! Paddlers - Keith, Chucky, Colin, Samantha, Michael, Rob, Jamie, Alex, Dylan Venue - Afon Conwy - Ysbwy Ifan to A5 bridge and A5 bridge to lay-by - Approx 8km in total Paddling in 2017 has been off to a faltering start, with a couple of planned days being abandoned due to no rain, it has been a VERY dry start to the Winter season.  So the midweek plans were tentatively made with keen eyes watching the weather forecast and becoming meteorological experts.  By Thursday it seemed fairly clear that there would be some water around so the beginnings of plans were discussed and continued through to Saturday night, with a few excited bodies itching to get back on the water, in some cases for the first time in over 12 months!

Peer paddle on the T

Tryweryn Peer Paddle by Sam Paddlers - Chucky, Sam, Dean, Jamie and Zaf from WFCC, also joined by Dave.Y, Dave.M, Laurence and Taz and Ross. The day began with an obligatory stop at dobbies for breakfast and to allow all separate parties to meet. The drive into bala was a picturesque one with the valleys full of fog.

White Water Improvers day

WFCC White Water Improvers day September 11th - Tryweryn Paddlers: Keith, Dean, Trevor, Bill, Ali and Chucky With plans in place we rocked up at the club house to move the boats around, collect the campers’ boats and head off to Bala. The Tryweryn was to be the days training venue. Taking in the views on the mountain road as the weather gradually got warmer and the clouds disappeared.

Saunton Surf Weekend - June 2016

Paddlers (and non-paddlers): Keith, Chucky, Bill, Ali, Norman, Sue, Gemma, Mark, Richard, Dave, Trevor, Yvonne, Steph +1 (sorry, nobody got your name!!!), Mandy, Robert, Will, Tom, Dean, Kira, Kerry, Sam, Gregg, Jason, Jordan, Jonathan, Duncan.  Plus Misty, Milly, Molly + Elton! This was a rolling start to a weekend with people arriving on Thursday, Friday and Saturday!  Obviously the Thursday folks got the camp site set up for the rest of us, so after a rather wet and miserable drive down on Friday night it would be nice to relax under the group shelter with a beverage or two - OR so we thought!!!!

Intro to Whitewater - Knightwick, 22nd May 2016

Paddlers - Keith, Chucky, Bill, Ali, Sam, Gregg, Dean, Kira, Michael & Kerry (Chief photographer) The day started for me at around 11:45am, getting our of bed feeling VERY cloudy headed!  Yes, Saturday night had been a heavy one (very unusual for me I know...!?!) A slow trek around the house collecting paddling kit and getting boat out, then realising that my car was in Bewdley!!

Intro to Whitewater - 8th May 2016

Location – Symonds Yat Paddlers – Bill, Ali, Sam, Gregg, D ean, Ki ra, Rich, Jamie, Trevor, Dave, Andy, Dylan, Zaf, Duncan.   The day began with the skies looking a little dull but a forecast promising good weather, several of us met at the clubhouse to collect kit and we were on our way. Apart from the heavens opening and a few concerns over how the weather would turn out the journey was somewhat uneventful and after a compulsory stop for paddle breakfast we arrived at the car park to meet the rest of the paddlers. The rain had stopped and it was time to get ready. Myself and Gregg found ourselves in the shop parting with our hard earned cash as Gregg was looking to buy his first bits of kit and I realised it was certainly far too hot for a drysuit and a shorty cag was needed! After some faffing, in true wyre forest style, we were ready and headed down to the water to catch up with the rest of the group.

North Wales Weekend, 2-3 April 2016

Image
Paddlers:    Adam, Ali, Bill, Brian, Jamie, Keith, Rob, Trevor C, Trevor Q In attendance: Amy, Chucky After a week of dry weather our prayers were answered by the rain gods and Snowdonia’s rivers beckoned. Proceedings began with the obligatory coffee and breakfast stop at Dobbies, with Bill’s 12 inch hearty Italian sausage attracting the usual sniggers...

Steep Creeking - The next step (or LEAP)

Steep Creeking course - 16/17 January 2016 Paddlers:  Keith, Bill, Dylan (Shrewsbury CC), Karl (York CC) After cancelling this course back in December due to MASSIVE water levels, there was some concern that this weekend would prove the polar opposite and curse us with NO water!  Luckily, although levels were low, there were options to run at.
Sam vs The Conwy! Sunday 10 th January 2016    Paddlers:   Bill, Ali, Rob, Sam, Alex, Dylan, Tim, Dom   Following our Club outing on the Dulas last week, Sam had suggested she felt ready to try something a little more challenging.... so, with the Conwy at a perfect medium/high and a peer paddle on offer with Alex and Dylan and two of their Shrewsbury buddies, the scene was set.... mwahaha!

First Paddle of 2016 – Afon Dulas

First Paddle of 2016 – Afon Dulas With much anticipation and near desperation to get out and see some good water (from myself at least!!) we set of for the Dulas from the clubhouse, after an uneventful journey and a quick breakfast stop we arrived at the get in. The group got on the river slightly further down from the get in due to a large tree down across the river, this meant there was really no time to warm up and straight into the first drop…and a swim from Steve!

WFCC Visits the Dart 13th December 15

After several calls and text messages between the group members it was decided the group where heading to the Dart. Alarms set for a 6:30 meet. Upon meeting at Strensham services we discussed the details of today's paddle and whether to head to Wales or Devon. After reviewing the levels and talking group dynamic the Dart seemed to be the best river option for the day.
